Dev Log One

Writer: Persistent DreamerPersistent Dreamer

Hello! Here's the first of what I hope to be several consistent dev logs for my game, Absolution.

For those who are just arriving and learning about the game, I'll start today with the general premise and set expectations for how consistently I plan to write logs.

For starters, the project is likely going to start out with less consistent updates and the plan is to get more consistent the further along the project gets. The primary reason for this is that it's just me (Kind of. I do have help with asset creation thanks to a few artists and musicians , which I'm very thankful for ) working on the game, usually for a couple hours a day. At the rate I'm going, it will be slow and any update means taking more time away from actually working on the game itself. That all said, once I'm further along, I would really like the updates to be weekly or biweekly, depending on how much has been changed or improved.

So getting down to basics, Absolution is an RPG about three weirdos with troubled pasts forced to travel together to the mysterious Mount Soda.

Will - A war vet who has seen so much death that he instinctively knows when someone is about to die. He doesn't know who, however, which has led him to alcoholism as a coping mechanism.

Aska - A delusional old man who believes himself to be a wizard.

Carol - A woman with an obsessive fixation on a sword.

Along their journey the trio will have to deal with everything from mercenaries, a cult, a shape shifting monster, and even a serial killer. But the greatest challenge is overcoming their own traumatic pasts.

What I've been working to do with this story is to intricately link these three characters together and throw them on this journey. I wanted to make a game based on a "On the Road" kind of novel a la Jack Kerouac, or somethig where the characters are on a journey, always moving, never putting down roots, and I think that's what really drives the story here.

The thing is, these three can't put down roots. They've put up too many internal blocks to live normal lives. Carol won't put down her sword when it rains. Will drinks and is constantly waiting for his next panic-inducing revelation. Aska actively believes it's his duty to guide the other two to the mountain so they can fully transform themselves into heroes. None of these characters would likely allow themselves to live normal lives. Like it or not, they aren't normal, and over time that lack of normality kind of makes them a replacement family in a way.

hey, main artist/musician for the game here, just wanna say that if you like story based RPG’s, you will 100% love this. Once I heard the story, I was driven to help in any way I could. If you’re interested, I recommend keeping tabs on us and our progress through this dev-log!

That’s all from me.
